Trezor.io/Start — Official Setup Guide
Step-by-step guide to download Trezor Suite, initialize your Trezor Model T or Trezor One, back up your recovery seed, and move crypto into secure cold storage.
Quick start — setup in ~15 minutes
This condensed flow covers the essential steps for a secure hardware-wallet setup. Read each step carefully — security depends on correct setup and seed handling.
- Download Trezor Suite: Visit Trezor Suite and choose the desktop installer (recommended). Mobile/web options exist but desktop gives the most control.
- Connect your device: Plug in your Trezor Model T or Model One. Follow on-screen instructions to install firmware if prompted. Accept only official firmware prompts shown on the device screen.
- Create a PIN: Set a secure device PIN when prompted. This protects physical access — memorize the PIN; don’t store it digitally.
- Write down your recovery seed: When Suite shows your recovery words, write them down exactly and keep them offline. Use a metal backup if you want maximum physical durability. Never store your seed on a phone, computer, or cloud service.
- Verify & transact: Confirm addresses on the Trezor screen before sending funds. Practice with a small transfer if you’re new to hardware wallets.
Important: Trezor will never ask for your recovery seed over email or chat. If anyone requests your seed, treat it as a scam and stop immediately.
Optional security upgrades
- Passphrase (hidden wallet): Add a passphrase to create additional hidden wallets — powerful but advanced; record passphrase separately from the seed.
- Biometric unlock: On supported OSs, enable biometric unlock in Suite for faster access to the app UI (keys still remain on the hardware).
- Use Trezor Bridge: On desktop, install Trezor Bridge if your browser needs it to connect reliably with the device.
Supported devices & coins
Trezor Model T and Model One support Bitcoin, Ethereum, many ERC-20 tokens and dozens of other coins. Check the supported coin list in Trezor Suite before transferring large amounts.
